Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

When you browse. You can use the map, search and offers without an account. We count visits to each listing and its offers, and taps on its buttons (WhatsApp, call, directions, website), so businesses can see how many people found them, without recording who you are.

Pages, errors and speed. We count which pages of the website and screens of the app are opened, and the errors they run into, and the app measures how long it takes to open, so we can see what people use, fix what breaks and keep it fast. When something breaks, the technical details of the error (where in our code it happened, the page or screen, and your browser or phone model) are sent so we can fix it. This is done by services that set no cookies and are not told your name, your account, your location or what you search for. If your browser sends “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control, the website does neither.

When you create an account. Your email address, and your name if you give it. If you sign in with Google, we receive the name and email Google shares with us; we never see your Google password.

When you list a business. The details you publish (name, description, address, phone, hours, photos and offers), the position your phone reports when you confirm the business’s location, and your invoices. Your listing is public; your email, the location check and your invoices are not.

When you report a problem. The reason, any note you write, and your account, so we can follow up and notice false reports. The business is never told who reported it.

2. How we use it

to run Loakal: show listings and offers, sign you in, and review listings before they go live;
to send you emails about your account and your listings;
to invoice for listing plans;
to keep Loakal safe, stop abuse and fix problems.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not send you marketing.

3. Your location and photos

We use your location only when you ask: to show what is near you, or, for business owners, to confirm once that a business is where its pin says. We never track you in the background. You can say no and choose a town instead.

Your phone or browser keeps your last location, or the town you chose, so that Nearby works before your GPS finds you. It stays on your device; we do not store it. “Forget my location”, under Your location, removes it.

Before a photo is uploaded, Loakal removes the hidden information phones attach to it, including where it was taken.

We work with trusted providers that host our website, store our data, send our emails, count visits, measure how the app performs and report errors. They may only use your information to provide those services to us, and must keep it confidential. Some of them are located outside Belize, including in the United States. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google knows you signed in to Loakal.

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

5. Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to remember your choice of light or dark theme. We do not use advertising cookies or track you across other websites.

6. Security

Your information travels and is stored encrypted, and only the people at Loakal who need it can see it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a problem affects you.

7. Your choices

You can delete your account at any time from Your account. That also deletes any listing only you manage.
You can ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@loakal.bz. We reply within 30 days.
You must be 18 or older to create an account.

8. Changes

We will post any changes here with a new date. If a change affects how we use your information, we will let you know before it takes effect.
